Meet Whitehead Performance

Greg Whitehead  – Owner

Greg Whitehead is the owner and founder of Whitehead Performance.  He was also the cofounder of Metric Motion and Sanroc Performance which preceded Whitehead Performance.  He started in the automotive field in 1969 working at the Forest Hill Gulf Service Station and earned his Automotive Technician License in 1976 after apprenticing in various mechanical and race shops including the legendary Fejer Brothers Racing.

Greg became involved in the Datsun scene in 1970 when he purchased a brand new 1970 Datsun 510.  Ever since then, Datsuns and Nissans have been part of his life both on the street and the track. He is also a long time accomplished road race driver and race car builder.  Greg has built Datsun B210, Datsun 510, and Datsun 240Z race cars along with MGB, MG Midget, and Mini race cars back in the day.  He found his most notable success behind the wheel co-driving Ahmad Khodkar’s distinctive dark blue Datsun 240Z race car. In the late 80’s and into the 90’s, he won many Canadian regional GT races and championships and was 1989 GT Champion in the Firestone Firehawk race series.

Since that time,  Greg has focused on using his skills and experience to build up his business and serve his large customer base.  More recently, he has stepped back from the daily operations of the business to concentrate on other automotive opportunities.   Greg is currently building an SR20DET powered Nissan 240SX race car and enjoys motorcycles, snowmobiles, and traveling south to source Datsun parts and cars.

Mike Hansen – Manager

Mike Hansen is currently the manager of Whitehead Performance and handles all the daily operations of the business.  Mike started with Whitehead Performance in 2000 as an apprentice after Greg convinced him to turn his passion and hobby into a career.  He worked his way to become a licensed automotive technician in 2005, then shop supervisor in 2007 and assumed the operational responsibility of Whitehead Performance at the beginning of 2010.  As the public face of Whitehead Performance, Mike is the one who interacts with our customers on a daily basis.

Mike’s Datsun involvement began in 1990 when he purchased his 1st car, a 1978 Datsun 280z and has owned many 240Z 280Z 280ZX and 300ZX models since.   He is no stranger to motorsport either, having crewed on 240Z vintage race car teams in the 90’s and being involved in regional Autoslalom, culminating in Ontario Region Autoslalom FSP Class Champion in 2007 and 2008.  Currently, Mike has taken a break from his racing efforts to concentrate on running and expanding Whitehead Performance and spending time with his growing family.

Tony Silvaggi – Head Technician

Tony’s involvement in Whitehead Performance stretches back all the way to the earliest days of Sanroc Performance when he was hired by Greg shortly after it opened in 1983.  The next year he earned his Automotive Technician license and since then has spent his entire career with Sanroc/ Whitehead Performance.  He has been a steadfast employee and friend through the years who has become a master performance engine and drivetrain builder, fabricator, race car builder, welder, diagnostics and electrical wizard, carb and custom efi tuner, parts designer and suspension guru.

Tony also has a strong involvement in motorsports.  In addition to having built countless race engines over the years, he has built, modified, and maintained many customer race cars at Whitehead Performance. Furthermore, Tony is the one man band for Ahmad Khodkar’s 240z race team, being crew chief, mechanic, builder, test driver, pit crew, and transportation service all in one. Tony was also fortunate enough to take advanced race driving courses at the famed Nurburgring two years in a row. Following that, he has become an accomplished ice racer having won 3 Ontario regional ice racing class championships since he started in 2005.
